1. 단순하고 발음하기 쉬운 이름에 더 호감을 느낀다.

( In a New York University study, researchers found that people with easier-to-pronounce names often have higher-status positions at work. One of the psychologists, Adam Alter, explains to Wired, "When we can process a piece of information more easily, when it's easier to comprehend, we come to like it more." In a further study, Alter also found that companies with simpler names and ticker symbols tended to perform better in the stock market.

2. 무의식적으로 자기이름의 철자와 비슷한 회사에 취직하고 싶어한다. 또 자기이름의 철자와 비슷한 재난에 기부를 할 확률도 높다.

4. 놀이기구에 복잡하고 어려운 이름을 붙일수록 사람들은 그 놀이기구가 더 스릴있다고 느낀다.

( 실험 참가자들에게 가짜 식품 첨가물 이름을 하나는 발음하기 쉽게 하고 다른 하나는 어렵게 조작해서 보여주고 안전도에 대해 7점 척도상에 표시하게 하였다. 연구 결과가 보여 준 것은 사람들이 발음하기 쉬운 식품첨가물(e.g., Magnalroxate)을 발음하기 어려운 식품 첨가물(e.g, Hnegripitrom)보다 더 안전하다고 생각했고, 발음하기 어려운 이름의 첨가물이 더 새로운 물질일 것이라고 예측 하였다. 

놀이공원 기구 이름을 사용했을 때도 같은 결과가 반복 되었는데, 가상의 놀이기구 이름이 발음하기 어려울 경우(e.g., Vaiveahtoishi)가 쉬울 경우(e.g., Chunta)보다 더 위험하고 멀미가 나게 하는 
반면, 더 모험적이고 아슬아슬해서 재미있을 것이라고 생각하였다. )

5. 질병에 어려운 이름을 붙일수록 사람들은 더 심각한 것으로 받아들인다

( 캐나다 맥마스터 대학 연구진은 의학 용어에 대한 일반인들의 반응을 조사했다. 피실험자에게는 모두 16가지 질환에 대한 병명이 제시됐다. 8가지는 최근 10년 사이에 등장한 병명의 쌍(예: 발기부전 대 발기 기능장애)이었고, 나머지 8가지는 10년 이상 많이 사용된 병명의 쌍(예: 고혈압 대 높은 혈압)이었다.

피실험자들은 10년 이내에 등장한 최신 의학 용어일수록 어려운 병명에 더 확실하게 반응했다. 같은 증세라도 어려운 의학 용어로 말해 주면 환자들은 더 심각한 희귀 병으로 받아들였다. 병명에 따라 달라지는 이러한 반응은 향후 치료에 대한 태도에도 영향을 미쳤다. 

똑 같은 증세라도 ‘만성 속쓰림’이 아니라 ‘위식도역류병’이라 진단해 주면 더욱 속이 쓰리게 느껴지는 것으로 나타났다. )

6. 중성적인 이름을 가진 여성은 그렇지않은 여성보다 편견에 지배될 확률이 낮고, 이과계열진학률과 남초직장에서 성공할 확률이 높다

( Satran points to a study by Professor David Figlio of Northwestern University that observed sisters who were both naturally good at math and sciences. “Girls with more androgynous names were more likely to study math and science than girls with more conventionally feminine or frilly names,” she said.

Considering that engineering, science, and computers and mathematics are some of the best majors for steady work and high earnings, a more masculine name for a girl could really pay off in the long run. Additionally, a study from Clemson University showed that women with more traditionally male names made more successful lawyers and judges than women with more feminine names.

And think twice before you give your son a girlie-sounding name: boys with names such as Ashley, Shannon, Jamie and Courtney tend to have more behavior problems in middle school, according to Figlio’s 2006 study in Education Finance and Policy )

7.해외에서 백인스러운 이름을 가질수록 취업률이 높다

( In one study cited by The Atlantic, white-sounding names like Emily Walsh and Greg Baker got nearly 50% more callbacks than candidates with black-sounding names like Lakisha Washington and Jamal Jones. Researchers determined that having a white-sounding name is worth as much as eight years of work experience. )
